  • Economic Survey 2020-21! Opportunities remain in terms of agricultural exports

India is the largest milk producer in the world. Along with this, India is the largest producer and exporter of spices. India is the world’s second-largest producer of wheat along with cereals, fruits, and vegetables. India is the tenth-largest country in the world in terms of agricultural exports. Along with this, there is also a fact that the share of India’s Agri exports in the world’s agricultural trade is only 2.15 percent.

According to the Economic Survey 2020-21, this information has been received. For the first time in the last 17 years, the share of agriculture in the country’s GDP has increased to 20 percent. Last year, the share of the services sector was 54%, while the share of the manufacturing industry was 26 percent.

This means that even though agricultural exports from India are recording steady growth, we are not able to fully utilize our potential in terms of agricultural exports. The European Union accounts for about 36 percent of the global business of Agri exports.

In the year 2019, European countries had topped in this regard. Extra European Union followed it at number two. Its share is around 13 percent. After that, America has a 9% share in Agri exports, Brazil 5%, China 4.6 percent, Canada 3.7 percent, Thailand 2.4 percent, Indonesia 2.4 percent, and 15 percent.
