As the country enters its 75th year of independence, there is much to celebrate, but much more remains to be done. We spent the last one and a half years in the second wave of Covid-19 lockdown and unlock, farmers’ movement, vaccination campaign, state elections, and dangerous corona. In April and May, all the health infrastructure proved to be dwarfed in the face of the corona epidemic. The lack of oxygen, ventilators, and ICU beds during increasing cases of corona increased the anger of the people.

The second wave broke the back of the economy

Due to the increased number of corona patients, we saw people in line for treatment in every district of the country, and we could not find some names in the list of deaths because of the corona. In January this year, the S&P Global Rating Agency had estimated India’s GDP to grow by 11 percent. But he reduced the GDP estimate at the end of May to 9.8 percent amid the second wave of Corona.

According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy, the unemployment rate in the country reached the highest of 8 percent in 4 months in April. During the second wave, this year, small businessmen have also been affected due to the lockdown, and many had to stop their business. On the one hand, while the income of the people decreased, on the other hand, lifting fuel prices and increased prices of essential items like vegetables and edible oil added to the problems of the middle and lower strata.
