Research of Lancet journal claims that even after recovery, about 50% of the patients are showing symptoms of COVID-19. These symptoms are specifically visible in those patients who had to be allowed to the hospital after getting corona. According to research published in the famous science journal The Lancet, which symptoms are showing in the corona patients admitted to the hospital after a year. Researchers from China’s National Center for Respiratory Medicine have done a study on this.
What is in Research?
It was seen in the research that although most of the patients stopped showing symptoms within a year, the patients admitted to the hospital due to corona were less healthy than those who never became victims of the corona. Some patients may take up to a year to recover perfectly, says researcher Bin Cao. They did a CT scan of 353 patients six months after infection. In the report, they saw many types of problems in the lungs. Then it was advised to have a CT scan again within the next six months. In which 118 patients got scanned again after 12 months. It came in the report that some patients did not recover properly even for a year.
The same team of researchers had previously studied reports of 1,733 hospitalized patients six months after infection. In the conclusion of this study, scientists had declared that three-quarters of corona infected can experience some symptoms for a long time. During this study, the condition of 1,276 out of 1,722 patients, was evaluated for about a year. In conclusion, the team found that most of the patients’ symptoms resolved within a short time and, some symptoms may be present for six months in 68%, while some symptoms may be present for about a year in 49% of people.
What do experts say?
Most corona patients recover quickly, although in some the problems can be long-term, says researcher Bin Cao of the National Center for Respiratory Medicine, Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital in China. Especially in patients, who needed hospitalization, some symptoms can last for a year. In such a situation, it can say that it may take more than a year for the patients to recover completely. It is essential to keep this in mind when planning health services after a pandemic.
They researched on 1733 patients
Researchers researched 1733 patients of corona in Wuhan, China. These were the patients who were hospitalized for six months for recovery after being hit by COVID-19. Of these, they regularly checked 1276 patients up for the later year. One-third of these patients were facing difficulty in breathing for 12 months.
Women, which of the men serious?
According to the study, there were 1.4 times more cases of fatigue and muscle weakness in women than men. After 12 months of infection, their risk of lung disease remains high. Corona patients who were given steroids during treatment, fatigue, and muscle weakness were seen up to 1.5 times more. Researchers say that a similar symptom is being seen with shortness of breath or weakness in the lungs, Which can persist for up to six months in patients who have been cured of the infection.
This problem can occur in one in five patients. Compared to men, women are 1.4 times more likely to have long-term problems of fatigue and muscle weakness. In addition, women are twice as likely to have anxiety or depression as men, while the risk of lung-related complications may be up to three times higher.
Corona infection can cause many serious problems in the body. Especially during the second wave of the corona, people experienced a variety of severe symptoms. In the form of long covid, many of these symptoms can be present in people for a long time.
Based on the information received from the study, experts say that one in three people infected with corona can have any of these symptoms for more than a year. In this study, conducted on 1,276 patients in the Chinese city of Wuhan, scientists found that patients hospitalized due to corona infection may be at risk of having some symptoms for more than a year.
