The Health Ministry said on Tuesday that in the sero survey conducted in the country, 67.7 percent people have been found positive. The survey was conducted in June-July in 70 districts of 21 states. In which it has been revealed that in the serological survey conducted in the country, 67.6 percent people have been found to be corona positive. This means that such a percentage of people have been exposed to corona infection before and their body has developed antibodies against Covid-19.

Children in the age group of 6 to 17 years were also included in this survey conducted on 28,975 people. Corona antibodies have been found in 67.6 percent of the people involved in the survey, that is, they were corona infected. Simultaneously, sero prevalence was found to be similar in both urban and rural areas. Whereas 40 crore people still do not have antibodies. So there, antibodies were found in two-thirds of the population.

Giving information about this, Director General of ICMR Dr. Balram Bhargava said that children in the age group of 6-17 years were included in the National Sero Survey. It was 57.2 percent among people aged 6-9 years; In 10-17 years, it was 61.6 per cent; In 18-44 years, it was 66.7 per cent. Whereas in 45-60 years it was 77.6 percent.

According to the survey, 67.60 percent of the people have come under the ambit of corona virus infection so far. There is equal sero positivity in urban and rural areas. Also, equal infection has been found in adults and children. At the same time, more than 40 crore population of the country is still at risk of infection.

Releasing the results of sero survey, ICMR Director General Dr. Balram Bhargava said that the survey revealed that corona antibodies have been found in two-thirds of the population of the country. There is still a danger of corona on 40 crore population. Antibodies have also been found in more than half of the children aged 6 to 17 years included in the survey. This means that the infection in the second wave has also affected children.

What came out in sero survey?

  • 69.6 percent living in urban areas and 66.7 percent living in rural areas had antibodies.
  • Antibodies to corona were found in 57.2 percent of children aged 6 to 9 years and 61.6 percent of children aged 10 to 17 years.
  • Antibodies were found in 66.7 percent of 18 to 44 years old, 77.6 percent of 45 to 60 years old and 76.7 percent above 60 years.
  • Antibodies against corona were found in 69.2 percent of women and 65.8 percent of men included in the survey.

  • According to the information, this sero survey has been done for the fourth time in a total of 70 districts across the country.Even before this, three sero surveys were conducted. The positivity was found to be 0.7 percent in the first sero survey of May-June 2020, 7.1 percent in the second sero survey of August-September 2020 and 24.1 percent in the third sero survey from December 2020 to January 2021. However, there were 12,607 people involved in this sero survey conducted now, who did not take the vaccine. There were 5,038 who had received one dose and 2,631 had received both.

The survey revealed that antibodies were found in 89.8 percent of those who took both doses of the vaccine. At the same time, antibodies were found in 81 percent of those who took a dose, whereas, those who did not take the vaccine, only 62.3 percent of such people got antibodies. In ACE, it can be believed that antibodies are being formed after taking the vaccine.
