The National Crime Records Bureau has recently presented data on child suicides. According to government figures, more than 24,000 children have committed suicide in just two years. According to the released data, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of children committing suicide. Regarding which the main opposition party of the state has raised questions on the government.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released statistics on child suicides in the country. According to government data, over 24,000 children in the age group of 14-18 years have committed suicide in the two years from 2017 to 2019. Of these, more than 4,000 such cases have been reported due to failure in the examination. According to the data, 24,568 children, including 13,325 girls in the age group of 14-18 years, died by suicide between 2017-19.
According to government data, the figures given by the NCRB and tabled in Parliament recently, it has also been said that more than 24,000 children in the age group of 14-18 years died by suicide from 2017 to 19. However, more than 4,000 such cases were reported due to failure in the examination. According to these figures, 24,568 children, including 13,325 girls in the age group of 14-18 years, died by suicide from 2017 to 2019.
According to the data, Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of child suicide deaths at 3,115, followed by West Bengal at 2,802, Maharashtra at 2,527, and Tamil Nadu at 2,035. However, suicide is a personal tragedy that takes a person’s life prematurely. According to statistics, every year, more than 1,00,000 people commit suicide in our country.
Not only this, according to earlier reports and surveys, emotional predominance, isolation, abuse, violence, family problems, mental disorders, alcohol addiction, financial loss, chronic pain, etc. have been found behind children taking such steps as suicide.
But reacting to this disappointing report, child rights activists have emphasized on making mental health a part of mainstream health, care, and wellness programs along with life skills training of children through the school curriculum.
